A Perfect Day in Whitefish - August
A local's guide to August in Whitefish

I wake up beside a high alpine lake in the northern Whitefish Range in my comfy new sleeping bag, thick cushiony inflatable mattress and mesh tent.  Locally owned stores like the Sportsman & Ski Haus have provided me with tons of choices of gear!  The cool breeze on my face awakens me enough to realize that I need JAVA.  I have a nifty little French press that I use to make Montana Coffee Traders coffee, breakfast blend and French roast mixed together with some coconut milk. Ahhh ... the sun is filtering through the trees and my mind is calm and at peace.  Stretching, reading and journaling start my day while I let the sun rise a bit higher in the sky – I see fish rising! My fly rod is all assembled and I have a couple of hours to fish before hiking out and picking huckleberries along the way.

I arrive back in Whitefish by early afternoon just in time to hang out on Central Avenue and take in new art exhibits at the Stillwater Gallery, Walking Man Gallery and Stumptown Art Studio. I meet up with friends for a drink at Tupelo Grille, then slip away to take a walk on the Swift Creek section of the Whitefish Trail with a friend before grabbing a bite to eat at the Last Chair on Wisconsin Avenue.  This perfect day is topped off by grabbing a last minute seat at a Glacier Symphony – Festival Amadeus concert, in disguise so I can sit and enjoy the music!  Or, if I am not in the mood for classical music there are so many choices of other things to do in Whitefish I know I am never lacking for entertainment!

- As told by Alan Satterlee, Executive Director of the Glacier Symphony and Chorale
