The second annual Easter Festival will feature three concerts over the course of four days. The finale concert (Sunday matinee) will be a grand performance of Haydn's sacred oratorio "The Creation” featuring orchestra, chorale and three voice soloists. Haydn was inspired to compose the work after hearing Handel's music in London at the beginning of the 19th century. This is an astounding and thrilling work with text drawn directly from the book of “Genesis.”
The Creation is set in 3 distinct parts and alternates arias and duets with choruses and instrumental movements. The opening orchestra overture depicting “cosmic chaos prior to creation” is remarkable in itself not to mention the incredible choral writing and tuneful narrative music for soloists.
Our voice soloists for the weekend include soprano Sari Gruber, tenor Brian Cheney and bass John Sweeney(originally from Belt, Montana but now living in Austria.) These acclaimed soloists will also perform a separate Voice Recital on Thursday night. On Saturday, the will include music by Bach, Cantata No. 140 for orchestra chorus and soloists and Bruch’s beloved Kol Nidrei for solo cello and orchestra. Our soloist will be Glacier Symphony principal cellist Griffin Browne.
