2018 Whitefish Whiteout Ski Mountaineering Race
Hike Up, Ski Down, Repeat

The Whitefish Whiteout is a mountaineering race, where competitors skin and bootpack up a variety of terrain, remove their skins and descend challenging terrain. The course will take competitors on an up and down route throughout the permit area of the resort and consists of 8 stages for the Long Course, 3 stages for the Short Course and an Ascent-Only Category. The Whitefish Whiteout is open to a variety of ability levels. Some racers compete with times that can be longer than 3 hours to complete the Long Course, or some are fast enough to climb to the summit in a mere 24:52 (this was the 2017 record by Mike Foote, besting the previous best ascent to the summit by 1:24).

The Whiteout is open to AT/touring skiers, telemark skiers and splitboarders with a men’s and women’s category in each. Choose from Single Ascent, Short Course and Long Course in each category. There is a maximum time of 4 hours for all competitors to complete the course.

Pre-registration is recommended and closes at 1AM on February 10, 2018. T-shirts are guaranteed to the first 76 Short and Long Course online registrants, so sign up early! Single Ascent racers will not receive shirts. Shirt sizes are available on a first come, first served basis.

Day of registration is available from 8 – 8:30AM.

  • 8 – 8:45AM – Registration at the Lift Plaza Ticket Center (see the attached Village Map). Even if you pre-register online (recommended), you must go here to pick up your bib, etc.
  • 10:15AM – Long Course start time. Short Course and Single Ascent start two minutes after.
  • 2:45PM – Awards at Ed & Mully’s in the Upper Village
